Attorney General Reveals Inquiry into President's Adversaries and Epstein Connections
This past Friday, Pam Bondi designated Jay Clayton to lead an investigation into opponents of Donald Trump and their connections with the late financier. This decision came just after Trump instructed her to launch the probe.
During an announcement, the Attorney General praised Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. The official added, “This case will be addressed with speed and honesty to ensure public transparency.”
This action appears to contradict a recent memorandum from justice department officials which stated that the Epstein files did not warrant additional investigations. According to the memo, investigators “found no proof justifying probes into uncharged individuals”
Trump Demands Scrutiny of Democrats in the Epstein Case
The announcement coincides with increasing pressure from Trump on congressional Republicans to oppose the full release of files concerning Epstein ahead of an upcoming House vote next week. Several lawmakers are expected to support the disclosure.
Newly public emails from Jeffrey Epstein have highlighted the president’s previous connections with the convicted criminal, including details that he knew more about Epstein’s conduct than he has previously let on.
On Friday, Trump declared he would direct the Department of Justice to examine Epstein’s ties with Democrats, specifically naming prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Interestingly, he also described the “Epstein situation” as a “deception”.
