Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is actually a dung trying to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a store to purchase customizations for your poop character.

Time your movements carefully, as a wrong move forces starting over. Leap on bubbles to propel the poop higher, navigate crumbling ledges, and touch buttons to unlock hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS for buying more difficult game content where things gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo shows off vibrant environments and a killer background music. The retro art with morphing basic polygons may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall similar titles where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Naturally, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, including winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on Steam on November 19.
