Former Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the former director has pleaded not guilty to making false statements to US legislators and hindering a legislative process.

Mr Comey's legal representative submitted the plea representing him in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would seek to have the proceedings thrown out for multiple factors including that his client, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

Mr Comey was indicted shortly after the former president pressured his attorney general to move forward against him.

Judicial Process

During the hearing on mid-week, the defense counsel the legal representative told the judge they planned to present several legal requests to terminate the legal matter before a legal hearing, stating the government's case was retaliatory and that a US attorney was wrongfully designated to handle the legal matter.

James Comey's proceedings was initially handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who stepped down under influence from the former president after his examination into another opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - failed to file indictments.

Judicial Environment

The former director seemed in good spirits as he entered the legal venue on mid-week, speaking with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was joined by his spouse, Mrs Failor and offspring Maureen, a US lawyer who the previous administration recently fired.

Upon hearing to the magistrate recite his constitutional guarantees and the two counts against him in court on Wednesday, James Comey was inquired if he understood the charges.

"Yes your honour. Thank you very much," he told the judge.

Historical Information

The former director was the FBI Director from four years and was terminated about several months into Donald Trump's first term as national leader. At the period, Mr Comey was leading an examination into international campaign influence and whether there were any connections between Russia and Trump's campaign.

Throughout his leadership, the director caused a counter-response from the Democratic party when he announced just immediately preceding the national vote that he was investigating Democratic candidate Clinton's use of a personal email system. Charges against the candidate were not filed, resulting in disapproval from the Republican party as well.

Ongoing Accusations

The federal government allege the former director lied to US lawmakers during a legislative proceeding in recent years when he was being questioned about both the Clinton investigation as well as the election interference investigation. They claim he deceived the legislative body by stating he had not approved a person at the agency to release to media organizations information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also allege Mr Comey of "wrongfully trying to affect, obstruct and impede" the legislative group by giving misleading testimony to it.

Individual Responses

Via social media James Comey shared to his social media after he was accused, he said he was innocent and alleged the former president of acting like a "tyrant".

"Our household have been aware for years that there are consequences to opposing Donald Trump," he said. "We refuse to live on our kneeling."
"I'm innocent," he added. "So let's have a legal proceeding."

The accusations against the former director surfaced after Trump published on online platforms calling for his attorney general, Pam Bondi, prosecute the former director and other people.
